Keukenhof, Lisse, the Netherlands

It is the time of the year to see bulbs blooming. Especially the tulips. No better place to see them is the Keukenhof. It is located in the west of the country (Lisse). You can spend several hours walking around to see all of them. One species is more beautifull then the other. It can be crowded with people.

The park is open from half March till half May. Opening hours are daily from 8am till 7.30 pm.

You can order your tickets online or at the front desk at the park. Be sure you buy a parking ticket for your car when ordering your tickets.

Nationaal Vlechtmuseum (braid museum), Noordwolde, The Netherlands

In the 1600's, 1700's and 1800's poor people were making extra money buy selling peat. In the 1800's all the peat was gone. So, new things should be invented to get these extra money. Branches of willow trees were used for this. It was a technique used in Germany. They made chairs, baskets, etc. with them.

In 1908 a school for braiding was opened. Kids could go there to learn about the trade. The school was open till 1969. The museum hosts in part of the school.

Walking trail at Holtingerveld, The Netherlands

At Holtingerveld you can go for 3 trails:

Hunebedtrail (2.8 kilometer)

IJstrail (6.3 kilometer)

Oorlogstrail (8.5 kilometer)

I went for the Hunebedtrail (on 30 March 2023). Allthough it was quite windy on this day, it was a nice walk after all. Sometimes the sun showed up. During this trail you will get information about the area (dolmen, WWII, why there are holes around the area, etc). There are parts of the trail you will go down and up. Watch out for the tree roots!

Vlinderparadijs Papiliorama (butterfly paradise), Havelte, The Netherlands

I visited Vlinderparadijs on 30 March 2023. There are various butterflies flying around. When I was visiting this place, there weren't many present due to renovations. Several showed up. Even one landed on my leg and stayed there for a few minutes. You will find information on how butterflies are made, born, etc. There even are silk butterflies on this planet for your silk clothes. It was nice to see all these butterflies, but I thought this place was much bigger. Anyway, it is a visit worth.

The butterflies are mostly showing on a sunny day. When it is sunny and warm, they are highly active. Mostly between 10am and 2pm.
