Nationaal Vlechtmuseum (braid museum), Noordwolde, The Netherlands

In the 1600's, 1700's and 1800's poor people were making extra money buy selling peat. In the 1800's all the peat was gone. So, new things should be invented to get these extra money. Branches of willow trees were used for this. It was a technique used in Germany. They made chairs, baskets, etc. with them.

In 1908 a school for braiding was opened. Kids could go there to learn about the trade. The school was open till 1969. The museum hosts in part of the school.
